RESCUE Poodles and LABRADOODLES
- I have ALWAYS got my dogs as puppies. I had never given a thought to an adult dog that needed a home. Didn't have anything against it, just never thought of it. Since I opened our home to Jazz & Checkers I have a completely different view of rescue. These girls are WONDERFUL! SO loving and devoted! They love the car, the boat, the water. They do not want to be 12 inches from me. They gaze at me with total adoration in their eyes, wagging their tail when I speak to them. When they came here, they hardly wagged and did not play. Today they are the happiest dogs in the world! PLEASE give a wonderful dog a chance to be happy. They may have some issues, but be patient, work with them, it's very rewarding!! REGISTRATION
- There are several DOG REGISTRY organizations. AKC (American Kennel Club)and UKC (United Kennel Club)are the oldest. They are the two registries familiar to most people. One is not better than the other, they are simply 2 different organizations. The function of these registries is simply to accurately record the dogs ancestory. They each have different rules especially in regard to Parti poodles. AKC will register parti poodles but does not allow them to participate in EVENTS. They also endorse the PAWS BILL that they will benift from finacially. For this reason Poodle breeders have begun to boycott AKC and register their poodles with UKC who do not treat parti poodles as "second class citizens". Breeders feel that if AKC is willing to accept money for registration then EQUAL RIGHTS should be given to all colors of the breed. For this reason some of our poodle babies will be registered with UKC. Since UKC does not have a "limited registration" option they will be sold with a spay/neuter agreement as I refuse to sell BREEDING STOCK.
FAQ - Grooming
- Check out this link for information about standard poodle traits.
- Check out this link for information on housebreaking your puppy.
- Several people ask me what grooming supplies I use, the following items are available at PET EDGE click HERE to go to their website!(updated 4/13/07)
- CLIPPERS- Oster Golden A5 2 speed (ITEM OS28310) Comes with #10 blade (close cut for face and feet)
- BLADES (get GOOD blades, they hold the edge better)Zerion 1/16 " (ITEM OS78910)Elite Cryotech 1/4" (ITEM OS88055) Elite Cryotech 1/2" (Item OS88035)
- BRUSH- Slicker (ITEM TP09413)
- COMB- (ITEM TP50545)
- SHEARS- 8 inch straight(ITEM MF189)
- SHAMPOO- I use human shampoo with a cream rinse (Poodle hair is most like human hair). In August I use DAWN DISH SOAP as a FLEA shampoo, seems to be the only time we have a problem.
- EARS- HAIR PULLERS (A necessay tool) ITEM MF180
- EAR WASH- (use OFTEN) ITEM VT20016
- NAILS- usually I use my DREMEL, but you can use a nail clipper, I suggest the kind with the guard that doesn't let you cut too far, availabe at pet stores. Don't forget STYPIC POWDER (ITEM TP91205)
- CRATE- I highly recommend a crate for the safety of the puppy and your personal belongings. When not used as a punishment, puppies LOVE their own place. Cover it with a blanket for that cave like feeling dogs love. All pet stores carry crates I wouldn't have one shipped. Get 42x28x31 at the least and 48x30x34 for larger males
- **Grooming Video ITEM ZX781- I haven't seen this-
FABULOUS EAR CLEANER
- Found a website that brags about a fabulous ear cleaner. Tried it and they are right!! The ingredients were a little hard to find but I finally found a pharmacy website that carried both. Easy to make, cheap and WORKS!!! Found the bottles to get it in the ear canal at Sally's beauty supply (always somewhere close to Bath & Body Works)
- 16 oz ISOPROPYL ALCHOL
- 4 T Boric Acid Powder (available on http://www.otcretail.com/)
- 16 drops Gentian Violet Solution 1 % (available on same website)
- Mix together in large bottle and shake well (be sure to shake well with EACH use).
- If ears are inflamed do not pluck hair or clean, flush with solution twice a day and wait for inflamation to go away (2-4 days).
- Treat twice a day for the first week. Once a week for the next 1 or 2 weeks and once monthly after that.
PUPPY FOOD
I feed the babies EUKANUBA LARGE BREED PUPPY (NOT IAMS Puppy) LAMB and Rice AND PRO PLAN LARGE BREED PUPPY. I believe it to be the most nutritious puppy food available. It is very important that the puppies stay on a LARGE BREED Formula the 1st year as they grow much faster than smaller breeds.
I also leave food and water out at all times. Poodles are not a breed that over eats, so this seems to work out better than regular feedings. I do suggest they stay on Eukanuba puppy the first year. Be careful feeding canned dog food to young puppies, it may be to rich for their system.
IN LOVING MEMORY
At a pet expo they had a display of these wonderful handblown glass balls for your pets ashes (pendant too). What a great way to have your pet close!!

FABULOUS DOG DOOR
- Living on the lake the west wind is a problem, especially in the winter (like leaving a window open). Gunner's dad (Jazz/Ruben baby who lives in Texas) told me about this wonderful motorized dog door that opens and closes similar to a garage door!! The dog approaches with a magnet on their collar and the door goes up and closes a few seconds later!! WE LOVE IT!!! No unwanted animals can get in either!!Here's the link!
